Insurance
Many extended health plans provide coverage for services offered by Registered Social Service Workers (RSSWs). Coverage varies by provider, so I recommend checking your plan before beginning.
Questions to ask your insurance provider:
1. “Does my plan cover services provided by a Registered Social Service Worker (RSSW)?”
2. “Does my plan cover Psychotherapy services generally, if the provider is legally authorized to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy in Ontario?”
What to do if your claim is denied:
Because insurance tracking software sometimes uses automated keywords, digital portals occasionally reject claims automatically simply because they are looking for the letters “MSW” or “RP” rather than “RSSW.” Please do not worry if this happens. If your claim is initially declined by an automated system, simply let me know. I will immediately provide you with a formal Insurance Appeal Letter that explicitly outlines my legal right to practice psychotherapy under Ontario law, alongside a detailed disclosure of my Master’s level clinical training. In many cases, clients are able to obtain reimbursement after their claim is reviewed manually (or handed to their workplace HR benefits manager).
